Demo and guide

How Avibrim works, and how to set it up.

Tap out a pattern below and feel it. Then follow the guide: a few minutes, and your phone tells you who's calling or texting.

Try it

Tap a rhythm, then play it back.

This is how you make a pattern in the app's Compose screen. Tap or hold the circle. Touch higher for a stronger vibration.

Feel it: on an Android phone in Chrome, Play vibrates your phone. On other devices you see it play.

Strength: a browser vibrates at one strength. In the app, the height of each gold pulse is its real strength, on phones whose motor can vary it.

Gold is vibration: width is how long it buzzes, gaps are pauses. The app draws patterns the same way.

How it works

When someone calls or texts, the first match plays.

Avibrim runs in the background. When a call rings or a message arrives, it checks these in order:

  1. Their own patternThe pattern you gave this contact.
  2. Their group's pattern PROIf they're in a contact group with a pattern, like Family or Work.
  3. Favorites PROIf they're a starred contact and you gave Favorites a pattern.
  4. Everyone elseCalls: the basic buzz, a pattern you choose, no vibration, or the phone's own vibration (Settings → Callers without a pattern). Messages: the messaging app's own vibration.

Nothing plays when:

  • Avibrim is paused (Settings, or the Quick Settings tile).
  • It's quiet hours, unless the same person calls twice within 3 minutes and "Repeat callers get through" is on.
  • Do Not Disturb would block the call or message. Starred contacts can still get through if you allow it.
  • The phone is on silent, unless "Vibrate on silent" is on.
  • You're already on a call.

Step by step

Set up Avibrim.

Install and run the setup guide

Get Avibrim from Google Play and open it. The setup guide asks for what it needs:

  • Phone: to know when a call rings, is answered or ends.
  • Contacts: to show your contacts and groups. They never leave your phone.
  • Caller ID & spam app (Android 10 and newer): how Android tells Avibrim who is calling. It never blocks calls.
  • Do Not Disturb access (optional): so Avibrim follows your Do Not Disturb rules.

Important: turn off your phone's own ring vibration, or it covers your patterns. On a Pixel: Settings › Sound & vibration › Vibration & haptics › Ring vibration. On other phones look for "Vibrate for calls". The setup guide shows you where.

Give someone a pattern

  1. On the home screen, tap Assign.
  2. Pick a contact. Use With a pattern or Starred to filter the list.
  3. Tap a pattern to feel it, then choose it.

For a whole group, open the Groups tab and pick a group, or Favorites for all your starred contacts (Pro). A contact's own pattern always comes first.

Free: 3 contacts with their own pattern and 3 of your own patterns. Pro: unlimited, with a 7-day free trial.

Make your own pattern

  1. Tap Compose.
  2. Tap or hold the circle, like the demo above. Touch higher for a stronger buzz (on phones that support it).
  3. Tap Play to feel it, Clear to start over, then Save pattern and give it a name.

Or tap Morse, type a word like MOM or SOS, and tap Use pattern. Patterns can be 3 seconds long, or 10 seconds with Pro.

Fine-tune every pulse PRO

  1. After recording or opening a pattern, tap Fine-tune, or tap a pulse in the graph.
  2. Drag the pulse sideways to change its length, up or down to change its strength.
  3. Or use the − and + buttons for length, pause and strength. Step through pulses with the arrows.
  4. The undo arrow takes back every change. Tap Done, then Save pattern.

Test it

Open Settings → Test call and pick a contact. Avibrim plays what a real call from them would play, and tells you if something would stop it.

Feel who's texting PRO

  1. Open Settings → Messages and turn on Message vibrations.
  2. Read the note, tap Continue, and turn on Avibrim on the notification access screen.
  3. In your messaging app's settings, turn off its own vibration so you feel only the pattern.

Works with WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Telegram, Signal, Messenger, Viber, Google Messages and Samsung Messages. Avibrim only looks at who a message is from. Muted chats stay quiet.

Fit it to your day

  • Pause for a meeting: add the Avibrim tile from Settings → Pause from Quick Settings. One tap pauses for an hour, then Avibrim turns itself back on.
  • Quiet hours: pause Avibrim every night at the times you choose.
  • Vibrate on silent: people with a pattern still vibrate when the phone is on silent.
  • Repeat PRO: until you answer, or a set number of times. Get stronger with each repeat starts gentle and builds up.
  • Missed-call reminder PRO: a minute after a missed call, their pattern plays once more.
  • Repeat callers get through PRO: a second call within 3 minutes plays at full strength, even in quiet hours.
  • Callers without a pattern and Unknown numbers: the basic buzz, a pattern, no vibration, or the phone's own vibration.

Share and back up

  • Share a pattern: open it and tap the share button. A friend scans the QR code with Avibrim and has it too.
  • Back up: Settings → Back up saves all patterns and who has which one to a file. Use Restore a backup on your next phone. The file contains phone numbers, so keep it private.

Not working?

Run the Checkup first.

On the home screen, tap Not working? Avibrim checks its permissions and your phone's settings, shows what happened on the last call, and gives you a button to fix each problem.

The pattern starts, then a normal buzz takes overYour phone's own ring vibration is on. Turn it off (step 1).
Everyone gets the same buzzOn Android 10 and newer, allow Avibrim as your caller ID & spam app, or Android hides the number from it.
Nothing on silentTurn on Settings → Vibrate on silent.
Nothing at nightCheck quiet hours and Do Not Disturb. Starred contacts can be let through.
Stops working after a whileYour phone may be stopping Avibrim in the background. Allow it to run in the background in the phone's battery settings.
No message vibrationsAllow notification access again in Settings → Messages, and check the chat isn't muted.

Still stuck? In the Checkup, tap Email. The email includes how Avibrim is set up, so we can help faster.
